Have you ever wondered why the colour of your teeth is so important?
Our eyes perceives black and white more acutely than it does colour. This is due to the way the light receptors are arranged in our eyes. This means we are all naturally attracted to bright colours and dark spaces also draws our attention. How does whitening work At Hainault Gentle Dental, we offer home tooth whitening because we believe this is the most cost effective way for you to achieve a good result. You will wear whitening trays with the active whitening gels inside them for a few hours a day or overnight. The whitening gel will break down the molecules inside your teeth which is causing the discolouration. Once the treatment is finished, you simply wash off the gel and your teeth is left whiter than before. Please note that any existing fillings or crowns will not change colour after tooth whitening and may need to be replaced in order to match the new colour of your teeth. |
How long does the treatment take?
We normally recommend a standard course of whitening, which takes about 10-14 days to complete. However, some people like to whiten for a longer period of time so that they are reassured their teeth is as white as possible. Tooth whitening can only return your teeth to their original colour, so there is a maximum limit to what can achieved. Therefore, we do not normally recommend whitening for longer than 4 weeks. Will it be painful? Around 75% of people having whitening will experience some forms of sensitivity during the procedure. This can be managed in a few ways for example, using a de-sensitising toothpaste prior and during whitening. How long will it last? Studies shows that most patients remain happy with their smile for many years after the initial treatment. This will also depend on whether your habits, such as smoking, the types of food you consume, and your oral hygiene. The good news is that you can always buy more gels if you want to top up your smile for a big event. |
